I have heard about problems with OMC motors in the 90's, and want to know about the standard carborator 90hp. Were the OMC problems just with FICHT engines, or did the quality of all of the OMC motors get bad in the 90's. [I owned a 115hp for years in the 70s with no problems]

The simple answer is the 1995 90 HP Johnson is a very reliable, proven motor. Nothing to do with the ficht problems.

OMC's quality control problems didn't start until '99-'00. Carbed engines built before that are as good as ever.

Hey there Captain,

I own a '98 model 90hp Evinrude, which I think is very similar to the one you are speaking of, and it has been a great engine thus far. It is carbed and I had the oil injection disconnected just for peace of mind. You should be very happy with that engine.
