Hope this is the right section. After struggling with a leak, pulled engine last weekend. Found soft spots on transom, up the stringer and an engine mount completely gone.

5.7L Mercruiser w/ Alpha One Gen II outdrive. I'll post pics following repair also. Took about 5-6 hours to pull the engine...first timer. Not sure if this helps anyone, but I wanted to make it available since I've received so much help from people on here....much appreciated.

Welcome to the iBoats Dry Dock!

Before you go to far take a LOT of measurements so you will have them when you go back with the new. It's critical that everything lines up correctly. Also critical that the transom is within specs and is Flat and Parallel. Friscoboaters thread is almost the iBoats bible on I/O rebuilds.

Woodonglass. I'm having the transom repaired by a marine shop in town that is experienced in that regard. I pulled the engine/outdrive etc..myself to save money, but don't have a place to do the work on the boat myself, nor am I comfortable with the process. This shop should know all that, right? I've spoken to a few people who have used them and they had no complaints. I've spoken to them already about the motor mount and don't know how they will match that since it's obliterated...is there a footprint or drawing with dimensions available anywhere for the specific engine? If so, they could key off the existing mount since it's still in place.

Also, my planned replacement list before putting the engine and outdrive back on (i'll borrow and alignment tool - think I have a resource) or pay someone to do the engine alignment if I can't reasonably locate one (no desire to purchase though I'd rent ;-).

Gasket kits and o-rings for outdrive
Shift cable assembly
Both bellows assemblies
Engine head gaskets (found it was leaking)
Spark plugs
Plus a few really minor odds and ends that I found needed replaced when pulling assemblies

Anything else that I probably should do outside of that list related to these components??

I am NOT an I/O guru. Send a PM to frisoboater. He can give you ALL the low down on what you should be doing in that area. I can help with the transom, stringers, deck and glass rebuild issues just not the motor and outdrive stuff.;)
