Re: 1995 Crestliner ProAm interior overhaul

BIG THANKS to dad we got alot done this weekend, this post is lacking in progress shots of the trailer cuz well i forgot to take some, but anyhow.

SEM Etching primer on the bare aluminum of the boat, this stuff has a huge amount of fumes large open space is a must, the building is 45x70 and it stunk the whole place up.

Trailer, thie turned out to be alot more work than it was going to be worth to get 100% so it got mostly stripped scuffed it all to remove loose remains and primer went on it. And then good ole Rustoleum black went on this morning, hopefully it will be easier to touch up than white....If i could go back i would have left the trailer alone.. Got the roller brackets adjusted so they are sqaure tho so maybe the boat will load straight and can now easily do my trailer lights without crawling on the ground. It will get another coat wednesday, and be reassembled saturday to go back under the boat.

Re: 1995 Crestliner ProAm interior overhaul

Weekend update. DONE PAINTING and glad about it, I am tired of spraying and tired of shaking cans, its all done with rattle bombs.

Picked up outdoor carpet from Menards today, so short of some screws and hardware i basically have everything to reassemble the boat, short of a hatch for a front storage compartment.

Trailer is done complete with new lights and couple as it was pretty beat up and sticky, came out better than i thought it was gonna after seeing how pitted and rusty it really was under the white paint that someone had slathered on it.

And the boat with the topside painted, I used Valspar Implement Ford Gray in a rattle can and as you can see in the pics its basically the same color it was, and is a close match to the bottom paint. Though it is missing the ugly globs and brush marks...

Long time no progress... managed to get the deck boards mostly cut and fitted before the weather in iowa decided boat repair time was over. Ready to glue carpet but its not quite warm enough yet.

Small developements include scoring rope for the rub rail from, http://www.knotandrope.com prices aren't great but it was the only place i could locate plain black 1/2in rope. basically $1/ft after shipping for double braid nylon.

I scored new interior lights that will fit the existing holes, yeah those had paint slathered on them too.

Also worth noting is a safety item for the trailer, non skid sticky backed sheets. These are actually for stair treads sized 6" x 24" Ii plan to wrap one on each fender, and cut some strips for the little flat steps, as well as a section of the tongue near the winch stand. lots of other sizes are availible and its pretty cheap. not sure how it will last with the water and uv exposure,

Couple other things,

Looking at trolling motors, I want to stay 12v to cut down on battery weight. I want to go bow mount, if anyone has suggestions my ears are open, not sure what i will need for shaft length either.

Next is guide bunks or poles on the trailer, what would you do ?

Lastly since my use includes family time i have the bimini top, im thinking of getting the rear struts instead of straps. opinions?

I also scored a new tow vehicle in November, 2003 Quad Cab Dakota 4x4 4.7l. My dad has the same truck but extended cab I used it when I bought the boat and it pulled it nicely, the jimmy pictured with the air compressor was ok but pretty worn out and stopping in a hurry was hairy.

We left off like this, pink sheet insulation foam has since been added, hopefully enough to keep it at the surface should it become swamped, there is around 1000-1100lbs of ability there, plus some foam i never removed in the sides since it was dry, wood adds to floatation as does the fuel tank, life jackets etc basically anything that is lighter than water. boat hull is listed as weighing 990lbs plus motor at approx 250lbs so we should be ok, hopefully i never have to test it

FLOOR, motor hood is with my dad to get some fresh paint since someone painted over the peeling decals, and the console/dash/steering wheel is getting a dash of paint yet, but i need it pretty warm for this paint to go or it will run badly as its very thin solvent based.

Nonskid stair tread material on the fenders.

Pretty close to reassembling the puzzle, need to cut out for storage compartment doors in front deck, and carpet it along with its 4 hatches, livewell and baitwell doors and a couple small pieces. Then assemble the whole thing and hope it still floats.

Hey now! That came out real nice.

One question, on the carpet, did you get that at Lowes/HomeDepot/Menards/etc? If yes, keep the boat covered or in the barn as much as possible, so it does not sun rot quickly. I used to have that type of carpet (cheap big box store stuff) in my old boat and it sun rotted quickly, within 2-3 years, as I didn't keep the boat covered all the time. Keep it out of the direct sun during storage and it should last a good long time.

Have fun on the maiden voyage!

yeah its the menards stuff, supposed to be indoor outdoor stuff but i know what your saying its pretty cheap.

it does live under a cover... and hopefully will winter in the shop. so far the stepfather hasnt complained about it being the the shop still not sure how long i can milk that out tho

there are a couple little things to do yet, sort of in order of importance

1. 12v outlet to charge/run things,
2. possibly a stereo,
3. seat base to the front casting deck between all the storage,
4. fish finder/depth finder of some sort,
5. trolling motor,
6. side guides on the trailer, not sure i really need them gonna try it out a bit now that i shouldnt need to bury the trailer to float it.

really looking forward to getting the thing in the water and enjoying it this season, last year was pretty lousy with the dad breaking his leg literally during the purchase and then the vro cooking the motor for me, and continuing to try burning down the rebuild. after switching to premixing its been good to me.

all told im in it around $3500, boat, motor, trailer, rebuild on motor and the refurb of the boat and trailer and all the required boating gear as i started with nothing.

My wife uses this stuff on our Patio Furniture and it seems to work really well to keep the sun from fading and the rain from rotting the fabric. Not that expensive and lasts all summer. You might try it on the carpet and see how it works. It's called SunArmor
