I HAVE A 1995 EVENRUDE 120 AFTER RUNING ENGINE AT HIGH SPEED FOR ABOUT 3 TO 4 MIN. HIGH TEMP. ALARM COMES ON AND ENGINE LOSES POWER FROM MID. RANGE TO HIGH RANGE. CAN STOP ENGINE AND LET ALARM GO OFF AND CAN RUN AT LOW SPEED ALL DAY LONG.I HAVE REPLACED WATER PUMP AND CHECKED THERMOSTATS SEEM TO BE OPERATING FINE.ANY HELP WILL BE APREACTED.THANKS

Sounds like you might need a motor flush with vinegar or CLR. I use vinegar and water 50/50 in a barrel and run engine until it reaches operating temp. Shut it off and let it cool down. I repeat the process 8 to 10 times.

I believe this engine also has pressure relief valves that open up at higher rpms. They are in the thermostat housing and are plastic plugs with a spring behind them. You may want to check them to see if they are corroded and stuck in the seat.

Hi StratoMan, are you sure it's the temp. alarm?<br />Is the motor & gauge indicating hot temp.? It could be a fuel restriction alarm. Does the same as the temp. alarm in this motor. With a fuel problem the engine could run all day below 2500 rpm's, but above that it will alarm. Make sure what alarm you are getting & give us more info. Steady alarm or is it chirping every second.
