1995 Evinrude 112 SPL power problem

I just bought a 1996 Wellcraft with a 1995 112 Evinrude Special. Problem is motor runs great at WOT till you slow down after first starting. Then it will only run at about 1/4 speed till you stop and let it sit awhile. Never misses just seems not to be getting enough fire or something. I changed the fuel filter and checked all the wiring. Changed the plugs. Can't seem to find the problem. The last owner had it go dead on him while out one day and replace the stator and retifier. Also tach has strange reading when the motor is in the slow down phase which it still runs good but will only make 8 knots. When at full speed it runs at 28 knots till you slow down and then will only go 8 untill you stop and let it sit awhile. Please help if you can.<br />Charlie

I was doing my usual early spring message board check and found this one that was not answered. I also have a 1996 Wellcraft with a 112 SPL however; I have not had this particular problem (where is some wood to knock). Not sure if Charlie A.R. is still on the board but maybe some of you pro’s can answer some possibilities of his problem.
