1995 Evinrude 112 SPL

My 1995 Evinrude SPL 112 has new carburetors and fuel filter. Idles well and smooth rev when in the water. When engaging prop there is a sporadic popping/hesitation and reduced power with full throttle at approximately 2500 rpms and only 8 knots.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Boat motors run great when they're not in gear. Sounds like you're loosing a cylinder or 2 once you're under a load. Go to a good auto parts store and get a $10 spark gap tester. Set the gap at 7/16" and test to see if you're getting a strong blue spark across that gap. That simulates how good the ignition system needs to be in order to actually have the motor push the boat like it's supposed to. If you have good spark on all cylinders, but still not performing like it should, I would suspect a fuel delivery problem.
