ok had my boat out this weekend
started fine ran out to my fishing hole
ran trolling motor for a few hours

started 70hp ran fine to another fishing hole didnt stay more then 15 minutes
tried to start 70hp and was idleing like crap put in gear and stalled about four times
then all of the sundden it run fine for the rest of the day

so i started it in the driveway it run good for about five minutes
turn it off to let some heat build up
restart and running like crap very jumpy
got out my timing light
#1 clyinder firing
#2 clylinder when the rpms dip it doesnt fire then fires and rpms pick up
#3 clyinder firing

#1 132 compression
#2 128 compression
#3 132 compression

#1 plug looks good
#2 plus looks fouled
#3 plug looks good

checked coil ohms with a multi meter and all are within spec
acording to my service manual
have no way of testing the power pack no dva

so could it be a bad coil
or do you think its a bad power pack

and how often do these parts fail

thanks bob

You could try switching coils and see if the problem follows the coil, if so you have a bad coil.

Follow the CDI trouble shooting guide. Even without a DVA you can perform a number of tests. Your Engine should be a page 40.
