1995 Evinrude Spec. Question...Help Please

I am looking to buy a 1995 Evinrude 40 hp. outboard 2 stroke and I have the serial number but I cant find the shaft length. I think the L in the serial number means Long shaft to 20" Right. Also, where can you go to find out information about a specific motor? It is electric start, controls, and power trim and tilt. The model number is E40 TLEOD I know the following...

E = Evinrude
40 = 40 horse power
T = ???
L = Long shaft 20" ???
EO = 1985
D = series of motor???

Please help if you know this information or if you know where I can find it...Thank you very much.

So do you know if that L means long shaft or what? I think thats what it is but I also think a lot of things thay arent right...LOL..

shop2.evinrude.com shows that model as having a 15 or 20 inch shaft. You can measure it yourself with a tape measure. Measure from the inside of the bracket where it sits on the transom to the anti-ventilation plate. This is the plate just above the prop.

Thanks anyways...I was just trying to figure out how to find that information out before the motor gets here. It will be here on the 17th so I cant measure it yet. Thanks anyways though.
