I have noticed that the in line fuel filter within my engine casing is probably needing replaced. Can I change it for a filter from the local automotive dealer. I can get one of the car type filters that has a sort of cardboard / fibre filter within the plastic casing. Or do I have to get a specialised filter from a marine store. Thanks.

I just put one of those Fram plastic-cased filters on my inboard and it works fine. Cost just $2.84 at the local Wally-World! (That's Walmart for anyone outside KY!)

Yes the automotive inline filters are cheap and will work fine. $3? I bought a clear inline permanent filter from Bass Pro instead. $18? It was more money but it's a one time purchase and I can see clearly whats going on with the fuel.

get the Walmart($27) fuel/water seperator and mount it on your transom and it will do a much better job of filtering any water/ethanol related junk from your fuel. replace the inline filter on the motor just as a backup. Good Luck!

Hey Robert, do you have a picture of that filter/seperator?
