Should I bother fixing the motor? What would a rebuild cost me? I'm not an idiot, but I've never done something like this. Is it doable for someone that isn't really a mechanic?

Depends on availability of used motors in your area.-----I am suggesting finding a used motor with some warranty.

IF?? you can scratch the scrapes and catch your fingernail, then it will need a bore job.
It' would take weeks to hone out that kind of scrape.

If you have basic tools you can rebuild it yourself.
Lot of work to it.
Not something a novice could easily do.

Take it apart and take the block to a machine shop.
They'll be able to tell you how far out the holes need to be bored.
If they say .040 or bigger?? don't bother.

You'll need a shop manual, not a Clymer or Seloc.

Not sure where your located but there's usually a Force motor on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace.
If you decide to repower? depending on the year? 91 and older they used the same shifters, mounting holes etc.
You change to a new or different motor, you can get into changing the shifter, cables, drilling holes and more.
