1995 Force 120HP..water into the cylinders

hi, ..got this motor , checked the compression , came out fine, 130psi per cylinder, put it in my Bayliner , and it was running rough , did the carbs and FP and still the same , it was hard to crank the motor and the starter getting hot, pull the plugs and find water in the plugs, pull the head, and find a lot of moisture in the cylinders, specially #3, inspected the head gasket , and looks fine to me , actually looks like if it was changed no long ago, doesn't looks like a 18years old gasket. checked the water jacket and found that Force use just silicone,..now my question... is there any other place or part than can cause this problem?..thanks

Yes the exhaust cover gasket. Not unusual for it to fail and spray water into the cylinders via the exhaust ports.

Also, if you have a stainless steel plate under the exhaust cover, check it closely for cracks. Hairline crack will also allow water to get into the cylinders. Be careful when removing the exhaust cover bolts. Easy to snap them off. They get stuck due to corrosion. If you find one that is hard to remove, use some penetrating oil, heat, or lightly tap on it to break it free.

Water comes from the head gasket or a cracked cylinder.It circulates around the pistons and the head.I'd guess the first, first.Possibly the water jacket on the exhaust.
Pull the head and inspect the gasket.Good gasket then the exhaust cover on the side could be bad letting water in to the pistons.
If the boats been in salt water one time it could be tough to take apart.
Do these things and post the results.
I remove the side cover with a lot of CAUTION!!!
I use WD or PB Blaster.I spray and use a small torch and a small hammer.
I spray a bit of heat and tap tap tap on the screw heads.I so this a LOT before I even try to undo 1 screw.
1 broken/twisted off bolt can be a MOTHER!!!!Just hope it's the head gasket.J

Ok replaced the Head gasket and still had water coming into the cylinders, found that all the exhaust cover bolts where some how loosed , good this motor have been used only in fresh water in Orlando area, tight them down and found that just a very small amount of moisture got this time into the cylinders, removed the cover and yes ,the inside gasket was broken allowing the water to go into the cylinders, replaced the gaskets ...and problem solved....thanks for all the info...
