Im thinking of putting a tach on my motor. Im being told the harness plugs in to the control box.......... What and where is the contol box? Yea, im kinda new at this! Thanks!!
Gotta learn somehow, right?

Voltage rectifier on the engine has 4 wires, 2 yellow, one grey, one red.
Follow the grey wire to the terminal strip on the side of the motor. The grey wire connects to either another grey wire, or a purple wire.

This wire enters the wiring harness and runs up to the remote control unit at the helm.
Find that wire either under the dash, or in the remote control unit.
I just found my tach wire yesterday on my 94' 120hp Bayliner 1800. I'll tell you where I found mine becuase tracing the wire from the motor though a bundle of 30 or more wires was not fun and or impossible for me.

All I did was unscrew 4 screws that hold in the panel that hold the key start & 3 switches to the left of my steering wheel. behind it I notice a bunch of wires and 3 extra wires that were folded over and taped to the rest of the harness. These wires had butt connector crimped on one side but were not attached to anything.

So I figured they must be it so I tested the GREY wire w/ BLACK STRIPE and sure enough it was it.

I was glad to find it I've had a Tach for a year that didn't work since it wasn't connected.
by the way for testing my way was kind of getto but i think it worked. I just striped the sender wire from my tach and put it inside the butt connector and tapped the key slightly so the motor would crank for half a second but not start. Sure enough the the tach needle bounced!

Hope this helps on your 95
