I can not get my Johnson to run correctly. The problem I am having is with the fuel priming solenoid. If the red lever is in the run position I can get it started but it wont stay running. Its like after it burns the fuel from the priming solenoid it just dies??? But if I move the red lever to the manual postition I can get it to idle. Why is it doing this? Ive checked the solenoid and its working fine. I bought this from an individual and the VRO pump is off and Im mixing 50:1. Also how can I check the spark by myself...kind of hard to turn the engine over and be back there at the same time?

In using the primer solenoid, you're applying fuel directly to the intake manifold, bypassing the carburetors. The carburetors are clogged, fouled, etc. Manually clean the high speed jets with a piece of wire.
