So redid the fuel pump, replaced diaphragm amd gaskets. Put a new ignition coil in. Compression 113 and 108. Still having a hard time starting without starter fluid.

Look for a needle valve toward the top of the carb. Close it gently clockwise until it is lightly seated, then open it counterclockwise 1 1/2 turns. See if the motor starts.

So it starts on 3 pulls with no starter fluid. But couldnt run it longer to adjust the carb a little more. It has stopped pissing water. I had just put a new impeller in. Ran trimmer string as far as I could. Not sure if I put the impeller in wrong or what.

So with water at 8" above the pump is it pumping now ????----The pump is NOT self priming !

Sorry for my delay. That is correct with the water above the impeller I now have a nice strong stream. Actually seems stronger then it was previously. Also motor seems to start on the 3rd pull with no starter fluid. I broke the shift lever the other day so need to wait for that before I actually try it out on the water. So for now things seem to be working how the should.

If the tell tale began working after you increased the water level, you should assume the powerhead was not getting water earlier.

If thays the case is there anything I should worry about? It ran maybe 5-10s tops before I shut it off due to no water. There is a strong stream now though.

Some will argue.------If impeller ran dry for 10 seconds I would replace it.

^^Agree. Most failures are due to overheating. Tell tale aside, get used to checking temp on the top of the head. Too hot no touch means it's overheating. An infrared gun is a valuable tool for testing. 160F or over is too hot.
