It seems like I put a burr under your saddle somehow. If you dont want to help dont I still appreciate the help you gave but not the attitude so much

If you stick around you will have to get used to it.. If you continue to ask questions he will in the end insult you and anyone else who has something to add..

I am just trying to fix my sons motor. As i said before I truly appreciate the help. I am pretty handy with tools and do most of my own repairs but other than water pumps, tune ups , i dont have alot of experience with outboards. I am 71 years old and quit kissing butt when I retired lol

Now, now, fellows.... Be nice. Why, what's been said through-out hundreds of posts in the last couple months, years have amounted to nothing more than a bit of constructive criticism that brings out the smiley face thing in me... however go back about five years and there were a few rebuttals that scorched the edges of iBoats & Marine-Engine's server so bad that they had to install a new program. We don't do that anymore!

Everything is good here. I found piece of that upper grommet stuck and blocking some water flow. I pulled the powerhead after bending and grinding a bunch of 1/2 inch open end and box wrenches. It took me all afternoon to remove those 2 nuts on the studs. I dont know how I will get them back on the studs. My hand is too big. I am still waiting to hear from brp. They sent me an email saying they would answer within 24 hours. That was 36 hours ago lol.

what should I use with the gaskets. On the exhaust side somebody used some kind of gasket maker that is hard as a rock. should i use a gasket sealer or gasket maker with the oem gaskets? thanks for the info

(4) What should I use with the gaskets, should i use a gasket sealer with the oem gaskets?

1 - I'm aware of the nuts you speak of. I took a old box wrench, stuck it in a vice, put a propane torch to it, then bent it into the most distorted special wrench anyone ever managed to look at... still have it, will never use it again, but can't seem to part with it.

2 - First, clean the threads of the stud and the nut thoroughly. Then have a scribe or some sort of pointed tool pressed on top of that stud, let the nut slide down the scribe or whatever tool you're using. Now, still keeping that point jammed on top of the stud, use a long skinny screwdriver to spin the nut on.

3 - The big hand curse... yeah, I know all about that. My late wife's car had the climate control go out.... broken vacuum line and of course it was jammed between the raised aluminum upper intake manifold and the firewall. Just enough room for one hand and a pair of needle nose pliers in the other hand. Managed to splice the vacuum line with a piece of boating speedometer tubing. Had one hellava looking left hand for a couple weeks!

4 - Auto part stores carry exactly that "Gasket Sealer".... comes in a can that has a brush attached to its screw off cap. It the only thing one wants to use on gaskets. NOTE:... If the gasket is coated with something shinny, that would be a sealer that seals with heat. Use nothing on those type gaskets. They normally have something written on them "Use No Sealer"... something! Avoid the gasket maker stuff, silicone, permatex, unless it's absolutely called for.

The exception is head gaskets... if the shinny self sealer is there, use nothing. If a plain head gasket, just coat it lightly with oil.

Good luck.

I want to update all who helped me. Installed new head gasket and gaskets on exhaust side. I put new grommet where water tube goes into the powerhead. Installed new water pump kit. I put it all back together (thank god I took a lot of pics) and fired it up with water muffs. No water from telltale. Took lower unit off and put the hose and got water from tell tale. Put in a garbage can and got water from tell tale. Put water muffs back on and no water again. Back into garbage can and got water from tell tale again. All appears to be good. I used to get water from the tell tale on this motor with water muffs until this water pump change. Why doesnt it work like that anymore.

I want to say a big thank you to all that helped. Your expertise was greatly appreciated. My Seloc book isnt very detailed.

You found me out Joe. I turned the water on. Yep shes fixed. Thanks again. I finally heard from BRP yesterday. The person that answered told me to check with my dealer to see if there is a replacement part. I told them that they should know if there is and would they kindly let me and their dealers what that part is. We shall see.

I have never got much a response on anything from BRP so don't expect much. On the other hand, Gentleman Joe comes through again!
