Just got a boat with a 1995 225 Merc on it.
The guy I bought it off said it was a 1995 carbed motor, but everything I read about 1995's are EFI.
Did they make both EFI and carbed in 95 and how can I tell what I have ?
Also what is preferred by most ?

Thanks

Re: 1995 merc 225 Carbed or EFI

They made both in that hp range.EFIs will usually have that displayed prominently on the cowl but since the cowls are interchangable that could prove unreliable.Easiest way to tell is,does this unit have a small spin on fuel filter on the engine under the cowl?If so it is an EFI.As you get to looking around under there you'll see other things as well.Carbed engines work great in most applications but fall a little short when it comes to extreme altitude or climate changes.EFI engines are supposed to compensate for those extremes and adjust fuel metering accordingly but are not very patient with rancid or substandard fuel.
