I have two questions regarding replacement of the temperature sender unit. I have found YouTube tutorials, etc for other Mercruiser models, but can't seem to find anything similar the setup of my particular engine.

1). When I look up spare parts, the online lists (specific to my serial number even) always seem to show a water temperature sending unit and a coolant temperature sending unit. They have different part numbers and look SLIGHTLY different from one another. Are there two separate sensors and what is the difference?

2). Where is the sending unit located that is linked to the temp gauge on the dash?

I don't have access to my boat at the moment to look closer myself. It is at my cottage a couple hours away, but I plan to work on it this weekend. Looking back on pictures I took during a recent head gasket replacement, I thought I could see the sender, but there is no wire connected to it. Therefore, either that isn't the sender or else I need to find the missing wire.

We don't know what you're working on (same as your other post). Generally one is for the gauge and one for the alarm.

Usually on the thermostat housing, tan wire

What do you mean you don't know what I'm working on? What other information is needed other than what is in the thread title?
