I need to replace the bellows and U-Joints and even with the OMC manual I have some questions:

1. The manual has multiple OMC lubes listed, can anyone tell me what the autoparts store equivelant is.
a. OMC Triple Gaurd Grease - Outer surface of coupler and U- joint bellows lip.

b. OMC Gasket Sealing compound - for the six mounting studs. Is this blue
permatex ?

c. OMC Moly Lube - Shaft splines

2. When I purchased the service kit with the bellows, bearings, Etc they had me
purchase "Bellows Adhesive" but the only adesive mentioned is for the water passage o-ring. Can use this to hold the o-ring and is there somewhere else I use it ?

3. The swim platform is blocking the lift eye, is there any tricks to getting it on on off without a dolly ? Can two guys manually do it ?

Thanks

The triple guard grease is still available at most Johnson dealers or online.I have not found anything at the auto parts store that is near as good. This is a waterproof grease, not just water resistant.
The OMC gasket sealer is replaced by Permatex or Loctite aviation gasket sealer.
My factory service manual states that Triple Guard can be used on the driveshaft splines also.
The bellows sealant is to be used on the lip of the driveshaft bellow and the water passage o-rings
No sealant is needed on the exhaust bellow.
Also the OMC extreme pressure grease for the u-joints is still available.
I will see if i can find the link for you to buy the grease..

Oh,to answer your last question,I removed my drive by myself but 2 people can do it easy.I did not use a lift.you will need 2 of you to put it back on.And make sure you barrow an alignment bar to check engine alignment. You can get them on Ebay for around 40 bucks or so.:D

You can use mobil 1 75w/90 GL5 synthetic in your gearcase. Your drive is basically the Volvo SX so you can use anything a Volvo uses.

You sure it said to put sealing compound on the six studs? Which manual are you using? You don't need anything on Volvos so you probably don't need any on yours.

You can use any spline grease on the splines. Sierra makes some..part number 18-9200.

I hold the water passage o-ring in place with a little waterproof marine grease.

Bellows Full of Oil

Bellows Full of Oil

Pull the drive and the u-joint bellows was full of oil. Does this mean the carrier bearing seal is bad ? Is it just removing the four mounting bolts and then pressing the new seal in ?

That seal is bad and the yoke itself may have a groove worn in it and require replacing as well.
Changing that seal is a little more involved than that, your manual should explain how to replace the seal. That is if you have an OEM manual, if you have a Clymers or Seloc, all bets are off.
