Motor runs fine in backyard tub. Ran it for 15 min. No alarm. Take it to the lake (second time) and as soon as I try to go alarm at shift/throttle begins ringing. Once it starts it does not stop until key is off. Weird thing is as soon at key is switched on (not started) alarm is on. Has new impeller, both thermostats replace. Not due to issues as a baseline for me. Don’t think it is overheating as that alarm comes from motor. Spitting water out pee hose.

That year motor had oil injection. I would suspect alarm is from that, if it is not from overheat.

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe overheat alarm comes from engine. This is at the throttle controls. Kicks out smoke smells like a 2 stroke. After you kick it in gear (back away from dock) alarm went off. Then as soon as you turn key on (no start) it is buzzin away.

both alarms use tha same buzzer thats located in tha control box or under tha dash somewhere.. is your oil injection still in use? if so, do you get tha 3 test beeps when key is turned ta on?. is tha alarm a solid BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP or an oscillating BEEP?..

I can't speak for Mercury outboards, but I've had 2 Yamaha outboards that have had the floats in the oil tanks go bad and cause the alarm to go off indicating low/no oil in tank. On Yamaha, there is a tank on the motor and an auxiliary tank mounted somewhere else that feeds the tank on the motor. Both had a removeable top that you can take off and manually raise and lower the float. If you have access to these tanks, with the key on and beeeeeep on, remove the lids on these tanks and slide the float up and see if the beep goes away. On Yamaha, whatever the float is made of gets saturated with oil and doesn't float anymore. Also, on Yamaha, on the factory digital gauges, at the bottom there are very small icons of a thermometer and an oil can. When the alarm goes off, one of them will light up letting you know the reason for the alarm.

I do not get 3 test beeps at turn on. But I did not try with float all the way up. Alarm is oscillating. I checked oil reservoir float and alarm stops went I lift the float. However, the reservoir itself is only half of less full. So not sure if float is issue or I am not pumping oil to engine reservoir.

Thanks, alarm goes off when I lift float. But reservoir is not full and about half or less. So not sure if I got a float issue or a vacuum issue (Merc uses vacuum) getting oil to motor reservoir.

Found this Tee with a missing hose. It has main oil feed line (from oil reservoir) feeding tee. Then one hose to engine oil reservoir and third outlet going nowhere. Searched all over and do not see a not connected hose. Where does this led to? FYI I have ordered a manual. That may clear up a lot of questions!!

thats normal for that fitting.. nothing goes there.

no test beeps at key turn on usually indicates a bad module... would be safe and add oil to main tank untill you find tha problem..........

I believe that air pressure is pumped to the main oil tank.----That pressure keeps the small oil tank full.----When motor is not running air pressure is bled off via that open fitting that goes nowhere.

Hi. Can’t urge you enough to just do away with that system and pre mix. Coming from a guy who learned the expensive and hard way. And not a guy who just has all encompassing thoughts on doing away with all injection systems on all engines. Some work well when looked after. But these in particular, will bite you hard…even with care and attention towards fittings and fixtures. Was the drive shaft on the pump that let me down.
Ticking time bomb of a thing if you don’t.

QBhoy, I believe that to be my best move. I was already leaning toward that and you helped me over the edge!! Parts ordered. Thanks
