Yeah, nice drawing there, Jedi. I wish I had more artistic skills.

Thanks, I hope it made sense. I know you are all jealous of my mad MS Paint skills. :)
That prop took me hours.

If your pivoting I think your ok. I think there is a way to tighten up the freeplay a bit but I am not entirely certain on that. Mine has a few inches of freeplay but it handles perfectly fine.
In fact when I got mine as I got it used and it was my first mercruiser I was a bit worried as well. I went to a marina and shook a few other ones and the all seemed to have some freeplay.

I am sure the more experienced mercruiser folks can tell you exactly how much freeplay there should or shouldn't be and how to fix it.

Re: 1995 Stingray Alpha 1 Play in steering

Well, I had the boat out for the first time last night, the steering seemed ok (there was some slack in it), but I have some questions in order to set my mind at ease on this issue. At lower speeds, the steering seemed quite stiff. The boat has power steering. Is there a fluid reservoir? In addition, there seems to be quite a bit of vibration when turning. Is this a problem?

Re: 1995 Stingray Alpha 1 Play in steering

Anyone know how much vibration is normal with a mercruiser? I'm coming from an OMC and it seems to ride/steer much differently. Also, with regard to the stiffness at low speeds, I checked the fluid and seems to be up to the full line while engine is cold. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
