1995 volvo penta 5.8l fi won't go over 3000 rpms

After replacing my spark plugs the boat ran fine for 20 minutes. I anchored for a couple of hours and when i left the beach i could not get past 3000 rpms.

Since then i have.
1.) rechecked the gap ok
2.) checked the spark ok
3.) replaced distributor cap and rotor
4.) replaced fuel filter
5.) measured low fuel pressure @ 4.5 psi
6.) measured hight fuel pressure @ 36 psi
7.) added sea foam to gas
8.) replaced t-stat engine was only running 120 deg now at 160
9.) replaced oil pressure switch
10.) disconnected water temp switch.
11.) replaced a battery with a loose connection.


where do i go from here

any help would be greatly appreciated

Back to the basics, start with firing order, I ran a ford with cyls. 5-6 wires reversed and it just didn't seem to run right but it ran.

have checked the firing order several times. a little more on this it started after i changed the spark plugs. she ran fine for 20 minutes and i anchored and then it acted up suddenly. can i use a ford analyzer to check eca codes?

does anyone know what voltage i should read on the tan wire connected to the oil pressure switch i was only reading about .6 vdc with wire disconnected. I didn't think to check for a grounded wire but does this sound right. I would think it should be 12 vdc.

model # is 58faphue manual says plugs should be gapped at .035 engine says .045 i gapped at .045. Does anyone know should i be able to read the diode between pin 24 of the eca and one of the sensor wires? i have allready logged about 15 hours on this problem and i can't a mechanic to work on it till spring because they are all busy winterizing and this is driving me nuts.

My wife is on my butt bcause I agrred not to tune it up till spring. I checked a plug and then decided it can't hurt to change the plugs.
I believe it might be going into slow mode, but don't have an audiblle alarm.

What did the plugs look like that you pulled out? If you got a great spark, fuel delivery and compression, and timing is right, you have to suspect fuel mixture. Rich, Lean?

Definitely not in slow mode. Anyone know where I can get spark plug wires for my boat?

have you tried putting your plugs back in that you removed.try pulling a lead off at a time too may be a lead not on correctly.

i couldn't reuse old plugs some of them broke.
