Engine Won't stop running after the ignition switch is turned off, or the battery is disconnected. The only way to stop the engine is to remove the fuel line or the leads.

Ignition switch does turn on and off the ancillaries and the starter motor.

Any suggestions?

Hi Peter,
First question, does the kill switch turn it off? If so it's probly a bad ignition switch. When the ignition switch is turned off it is supposed to remove all power to all the terminals except the "B" terminal, and short the "M" and "M" terminals together, this or the kill puts a ground on the black/yellow lead that grounds the power pack thus disabling the ignition.
Maby this helps

thanks very much for the advice. we found that the yellow and black lead had a resistance of 27 ohms. We replaced the wire and it stops perfectly. you saved as a lot of time and money - we were about to buy a new ignition switch!!

We were wondering whether this could also have been causing a second intermittant problem - the motor occasionally misses at WOT. we replaced the plugs, cleaned the carby and replaced and the main fuel filter, and it seemed to missfire less often, however the problem was still there.

thanks again
