1996 175 Fast Strike Carb Leak

I found out that 4 of the 6 carbs were leaking. I removed them all, sealed where they were leaking and put them back. The engine started with no problem. Went fishing the next day, it started and ran fine to the first fishing hole. After being there for about 30 minutes or so, it started, but did not want to go. If I had the engine up high it would go very slow with no problem, but the deeper I dropped the engine it would cut off as if the pressure was killing it. Please help. Thanks

Sounds like you could possible have a spun hub. Draw a line across the hub and prop, start it and run for a few mins, stop, if the lines are still lined up you;re ok, if not you may have hub issues. gl

HighTrim, I think he's saying he had the motor trimmed high (pun intended) ;)

Unless what you mean by "sealed where they were leaking" is that you "rebuilt with new carb kits including all new gaskets & float valves and seats", then your probably dropping 3 or 4 cylinders due to clogged hi-speed jets, and need to rebuild with new carb kits including all new gaskets & float valves and seats.

Where were they leaking? How did you seal 'em? Is your fuel line holding pressure? Tank vent open? Fresh, uncontaminated fuel? What's your compression?

Re: 1996 175 Fast Strike Carb Leak

Sorry, i did mean (motor trimmed high). I did rebuild with new carb kit. The leaks were coming from a hole at the bottom of each carb. There is suppose to be a little copper piece there, but it was missing and fuel was just pouring out. I was told to seal with a little bit of JB weld. I sealed all four and I'm not leaking gas anymore, but it will not run correctly. I did take it out again and it did the same thing. It would start out and run fine unitl i stop for little while and would do the same thing again. Once it sits for a couple of days it will start and run fine for that first run.

approximately where on the carbs is the hole you patched with JB Weld?

regardless, you're not running on all cylinders...do a compression test and a spark test and, while its not running right, a cylinder drop test and maybe another spark test.

It's on the bottom of the bowl towards the back on the inside. This is what I recieved from Walker (Commander).

Common problem. The brass plug fell out. Take The carb off and clean the bowl real good and you can fill that hole with JB weld. That hole does nothing. Its from the casting process when they made the bowl.

good. Would have been helpful to have it all in one thread.

so, trimmed up, it'll go slow with no problem, will it go fast? When you reinstalled the carbs, did you link & sync? Make sure the throttle valves are aligned, could be that your idle is set too low.

not to fast. If i go to fast it will shut off, but it will start fine. I oredered a manual, hopefully it'll be here within the net few days. Now, the link & sync may be the problem, becuase i didn't do it because I don't know how. Will check the idle and wait for my manual, unless I get the correct info. Thanks
