hi all<br />just came back from looking at a 14.5 ft princecraft with a 40 hp electic start, tilt/trim evinrude. the year of the motor is 1996 on the tag(forgot to write down the model #). checked the lower end oil - ok, seemed to run fine. one thing that seemed odd was that the choke was located under motor cover, no external choke lever or switch. the manufacturer tag on the boat had a max rating of 30 hp, i wonder if this is a suggested max or legal max. any other info on this motor would be appreciated.

The legal limit is 30HP.<br />Usually pushing in the ignition key, while cranking the engine does the choking.<br /><br />DHP

You might want to check your local laws. Some states are very strict about heeding that HP limit. Others are less concerned. I don't know about Canada. Regardless, liabilities issues could really haunt an operator of an overpowered boat in the event of an accident no matter who is at fault. If that is being sold by a Dealer, spread the word. I would have to believe that is highly illegal no matter what country and I would NEVER trust ANY dealer that engaged in such a practice.

this motor has a push button start located at the rear of the tiller arm, would this work the same way? the current owner said that on cold mornings he would have to remove the cover to choke it. i've asked a few people about this and no one has come across this type of choking system. also, are there any concerns with this year/make of motor?
