I put boat in water yesterday for first time. Engine was quiet and ran smooth. After running it for a while at mid RPM's I ran at WOT for a couple minutes.

There is now a noticeable tick in the engine. Sounds like it could be a lifter. Is this common? Are the valves adjustable on these engines?

Engines has about 200 hours on it and it has been well maintained. Oil is clean and up to level.

Suggestions...

I would check for an exhaust leak, a exhaust leak can sound a lot like a lifter. Look around good and see if you see anyhting. Pour a little light oil into carb SLOWLY while running to look for smoke and leaks. 200 hrs is not that much if engine is well cared for. You could try changing oil to see if that helps. The lifters make valve ajustments un needed, but they do fail sometimes. I assume oil pressure is good?

Oil pressure is very good. Oil is fresh and clean. Engine is fuel injected o no carb to put oil in for smoke. Any other sugestions?
