1996 50 hp adjustment question

Hi I have a new to me 1996 evinrude 50 hp 2 cylinder. Bought from original owner who said it runs great. I am going over a few things and confused about the adjustment of the idle screw. As it is set up now the roller is not lined up with the two marks on the big cam. Service manual says it should be centered between the 2 marks. The idle screw has factory orange paint in what looks like undisturbed condition. Should I leave the settings as they are or try to get the roller between the 2 marks on the cam ? Anyone seen this before ? Just looking for some inputs. Thanks

Just seems strange to me that it's not lined up with the 2 marks on the cam

Yes I'm cleaning the carbs, installing a new impeller, new prop shaft seals, etc. Compression shows 165 psi on both cylinders

Yes Guage is accurate. Was a low hour motor. I did the test on a cold motor. It's been sitting for many years. I'll check it again after I've ran it for bit

How do I test the. Overheat horn? The temp sensor is a single wire connector for your reference

Yes Guage is accurate. Was a low hour motor. I did the test on a cold motor. It's been sitting for many years. I'll check it again after I've ran it for bit

Pretty sure it wasn't that high when it left the factory floor but sounds like compression is good.

That mark should definitely up. If not, then something else is out of adjustment to compensate. Ignore the torque stripe and do a full link and sync by the book. Be careful not to break any of those plastic arm pieces. They are more expensive than you might expect.

Dont try to fix something until you know for sure there is a problem!!! As mentioned run it for a while, add a good dose of sea foam in the fuel to clean things out. Replace that impellor and take it for a shake down cruise

If link & sync is off, it can blow the motor. Do it by the book. There is a video of the procedure on YouTube.
