I recently purchased a 1995 northwood with a 1996 60hp ELPTO mercury on it. After getting all the papers lined up I took it out for a test. After starting the engine, it ran well for about 5 minutes at which point the constant alarm began. The engine entered a low power mode and I limped it to the trailer. After getting it home I realized that the alarm happens with the engine off if I simply turn on the ignition and wait ten minutes or less.
after reading the manual I ran a test on the temperature sender (tan/blue)and the alarm doesn’t stop when I unplug it. However it does stop when I disconnect the next connection “downstream” of the temperature sender. Best I can tell it’s going to what I think is the oil warning module.
now the engine is running well. Using oil from what I can tell, and is pissing a good cool stream.
any help is appreciated as I’d like to not purchase unnecessary parts. Thank you
