I have a 1996 75hp Mercury Force Outboard, that had not run in 2 years. Yesterday I tried to start the motor and everything was dead (no power nowhere). Brand new batteries, but no power nowhere. So, I decided to finish up something else on the boat. By the time I was done with that, I tried to start the motor and it fired right up like it never had a problem. I started it a few times after that no problems. This morning I went to raise the motor, and again everything was dead again (No power nowhere). I put my test light on the starter relay and it showed no power (that's where the tilt & trim wires are located and should be a constant current from the battery) I tested the tilt& trim wires, again no power. Played with the key for about 45 seconds, now she wants to turn over (now I have power everywhere). shut it down, and lost power again, all I get now is humming out of the tilt & trim relay?s. The starter made one rotation and that was it. Then lost power again, Now I?m thinking I have a short somewhere. Could the key switch be bad because of sitting so long, or could this be the starter relay.
