So, i was going to change my outboard and noticed a cracked transom cap and wet mounting holes. The transom seems quite solid, but one of the upper mounting holes is not in line with the other, so some delamination or similar has clearly happened which affects the stiffness. I have already made some steel bracing and was going to postpone any major transom work, but first i want to check if anyone has experience or ideas to share. My main concern is that the transom is not one flat piece. Only the part below the splashwell is. The sides curves towards the front and as far as i understand cannot be a direct part of the actual engine mount plate (plywood). Also, because of the boat design, it seems really hard to get to the inside to fix anything.
Can i be lucky enough to just replace the center part?
