Also have the 5.7 rebuilt though I don't have a completed picture. Bored .030 with the crank turned .010/.020. Federal flat top pistons. Converted to a roller cam with stock mercruiser lift/duration (Originally installed a comp cams hot cam but was talked out of it due to water inversion) Also installed vortec heads and upgraded to a 4bbl

Decided to lift the top this morning. Started warming up my brother in laws shop at 8:00 and we had this at 10:30. Not to bad of a job really. I was more worried about it than anything.


there was no way out of it as it really needed done, I was originally going to splice into the stringers here and not replace this part of the deck. Really glad I decided to do this as the wood bassically falls about when you touch it and the strings were mush here.

The only wood we have not yet cut out is the transom, It's actually not to bad, but I think it should be done for good measure. We have come this far why hold out.

We will set the cap back in place and finish fitting the deck and all the stringers and start prep for glass

SO what is the general accepted method of installing drainage? From the factory there was nothing more than drainage under the gas tank to the bilge.

I think I will use the two part foam from uscomposits.

Do I install pvc pipes to connect all the bays? My thoughts are that if it allows water out it will also allow water in if the bilge fills up.

Well, it has been some time since I posted any updates. I have continued to work on the hull on the weekends as time allows.

Installed and bedded stringers/bulkheads with a polyester peanut butter mix. I was impressed with the strength of it. After that I started removing some flotation boxes at the rear of the boat to help with deck installed. At that point it was apparent that the transom needed to come out. I knew from the start that we should of replaced it, but was talked out of it. With the rear motor mounts in, it was very enjoyable pulling out the transom. Took a weekend to pull it out and prep for the new wood.

Transom removed, ready to be ground out and new wood cut.

New transom going in, first layer of 3/4 ply was bonded to the hull with 1.5oz matt and polyester. Showwn is the second layer being fitted. It will be installed the same way.

Tomorrow I plan on installing the remaining ribs, and starting to cut out the floor. Next weekend I would like to start glassing in the stringers.

This is a great thread. I did almost the same thing on my 95 celebrity 190 3 years ago or so. I did not get into the engine mounts or transom because they felt decent. I also used seacast instead of putting wood back in for the stringers. Good luck and take lots of pictures for me.

Still hanging in there makeing progress. Transom was tabbed in with 1.5CSM strips at 4 and 6 widths:

Then two complete wraps of 1708 for a total thickness of 2":

I thought this was neat and wanted to share; when the outdrive was removed for the transom replacement here is what 6 of the 8 through transom bolts looked like:

I thought that was scary. The transom was in poor shape yet the nuts for the outdrive were still tight. I tore into the the gimbal, replaced all 8 studs, and installed a replacement gimbal bearing. The bearing was a bear to get out, boat is a 96 model and I am sure the bearing was original. Used the trick from the defeated thread about using the axle bearing puller. I had that type of set laying around and it worked well. Also installed all new bellows, hoses, and a shift cable while I was in there. Everyone knows what this looks like so I wont bother posting pictures.

I have also been working on a near rear bench seat. The original was destroyed from serving as a step in/out of the boat as well as off/on the swim deck. Fabricated new wood using the original as a template (Sorry no pictures) from 3/4 exterior ply coated in resin. Installed new carpet, lights, and speakers. Also added some extra support while using the seat as a step. I thought it looks decent considering I have newver attempted a project like this before.:

keep up the good work my celebrity is trashed and i was wondering was it hard separating the two halves? I have a 180 status. My floor is garbage I look to the forums for inspirations. where did you get your glass matting the 1708? THANKS

I have been thinking that I needed to get back on here and give an update. Boat was finished June 2011. On the trial splash she ran good, except I overheated the engine. Ended up finding that I warped one head and cracked the other. I ended up installing the thermostat wrong and had a spacer in the wrong spot. Anyways she has been a good boat and was out almost every weekend last year, and only missed two weekends this year since Memorial day.
