I have a 1996 Johnson 115. Engine appears to run and sound smooth at high speeds. At WOT on smooth water I top out at about 37MPH. I know that a tremendous number of variables will impact top speed. But, how can I test test check that the throttle linkage is opening the throttle fully?

Are we talking a 90 deg. crossflow, or a 60 deg. looper???
Remember, the speedo only tells us the result of how the boat is set up..37MPH means nothing...we DO need wide open throttle RPM though.
welcome to iboats!

On mine, I put it in gear (in the driveway without engine running), open the throttle wide open, and see if the throttle arm on the side of the carburetor is opening the butterfly completely.

But before you'll know if the rig is doing all it can do, do what walleyehed says.
