I'm considering the purchase of a boat that has this motor. The seller had a compression check done, and the cylinders averaged about 85. I think new they should have been about 105. Does this sound ok?? Other than that the boat is in great shape.

Welcome!!

We dont get too hung up on the actual number. There are too many variables -- gauges, how its done etc. As long as theyre all even you should be OK. If they were all at 105 and one was 85 then we'd want to look at that one.

We look for them to be even with a difference of no more than 15 lbs.

Thanks. They were all at 80-85. It's at a fairly reputable dealership on consignment, so I'm confident they know what they're doing.

FISH ON!

Just make sure it has Champion plugs. And if you buy it, start with fresh fuel.

Good luck!
