Are the zincs that attach the the transom thru bolts beneficial? I noticed a zinc on my lower unit above the cavitation plate... do I need more than that?? I saw other zincs that look like they just screw onto the remaining bolt that extends past the nut... are they effective? how much zinc is enough based on my boat being used almost always in Nacl H2O .... I keep it on the trailer when not in use. Suggestions?

Beaux, look on bottom side of transom bracket and see if there are predrilled holes for zinc bar to mount between bracket. Some are double zincs that mount from bottom. Also, there may be two holes on front of cavitation plate for a horseshoe zinc.I also run in saltwater and use every available one for my motor.

Beaux,,

OB has it right in looking for the mounting areas. Since your boat DOESN'T sit in the water, the factory installations should be adequate. Just make sure they are not painted, and check their condition often.

The zinc near the cavitation plate appears very pitted and is very rough/peebly in surface texture.... I am not trying to be cheap, I am going to change it out just to be safe, but for knowledge's sake- when do you know to change one (what does it look like)? I am beginning to think the guy I bought this boat from must have allowed the boat to sit in water at his house even though he told me otherwise.
Thanks OB and Djohns!

Beaux, If it's pitted it's working. No need to change until over 1/3 is gone.Never hurts if you prefer.make sure when mounting new that you get good continuity to case using ohm meter.
