Hey guys, my first post here. I just purchased a used 1995 2000cc hydrasports, it has a 1996 Johnson oceanrunner v6 200. The complete white engine with light blue lettering. Forgive me as I am a rookie at boating yet. The boat came with a four blade prop, which i have not checked the pitch. But the results where; Top speed 38mph at around 5,200 rpm's and around 4100 rpms at cruising 30mph. I am not interested in super out of the hole fast, as i'd rather have efficiency at cruising speed and would like the boat for the boat hit around 42-44mph as I think it's capable. ANY RECOMMENDATIONS? DOES THIS SOUND CORRECT? The compression on each piston is around 110 each.

Any comments on the engine, i'd appreciate it too. It was my first time out today and the boat and engine did wonderful, i am very happy with the purchase.

Yes, i have read that these engines are thirsty, smokey and loud. But they are also "bulletproof".....

If I am not mistaken the mfg recommended max RPM for your engine is 5000-6000. Please check your owner's manual to verify. If this is correct you are already in the range (allright, the lower part of the range) and changing to a higher pitch prop would most likely take you below and lug the engine. Going down 2" in pitch would get you 300-400 more RPM but most likely NOT get you any more speed (because of the lower pitch).
