I have a 1996 Mercury 150 with a 21 X 14.75 vented stainless prop. Idles good but when you try to get out of the hole you have to move the throttle slowly and stop when it gets to 1800rpm and wait untill the rpm start to rise to 2000rpm before you can advance the throttle to wide open or it will bog and die. Once it goes to 2000rpm you can go wide open and it will take off. I've replaced the entire ignition system, rebuilt the carbs, rebuilt the fuel pump, replaced all fuel lines, replaced bleed lines and verified check valves work, new chris carson reeds, replaced water pump thermastats and popet valve, removed idle stabalizer box, adjusted timing and set all adjustment as per factory manual. Compression is 110 an 4 cylinders and 105 on 2 cylinders. I've talked to several mechanics who all say there is no reason this motor should be bogging down. One mechanic told me i might need to change my jets to adjust for the compression loss from when it was new. I can't find anything on this has anyone heard of this?

Compression is a bit low per my manual on another engine which says below 120 you could experience problems. What boat are you running and when did this problem start. What is the history before the problem and currently. Why did you change the reeds and why not OEM? How did you setup your low speed adjustments on your carbs? At what speed/rpm does your prop close the holes and lock up? What's your rpm drop when it does?

Boat is a 1996 Skeeter 150sl boat is new to me and i cannot get any history. Reeds were shot and factory reeds are 600 aftermarket reeds are 120. Compression spec is 110 to 125 for this engine but there are tons of these motors with only 80 to 90 that run just fine. Idle mixture screw is set to 1 1/2 out as per the manual there isnt any low speed adjusment other than that. I can't accelerate fast enough to know when the prop grabs i have to bring it up slowly or it bogs so there is no rpm drop. The engine was 1 hole up and it would run 5900 at wot i dropped it 1 hole to see if it would help and it runs 5600 at wot now which is what the max rpm is suposed to be.
