This is my commuter vehicle, the milage is 159K, this car has ran flawless in the ten years since i've had it, it has been well maintained.
I got home from work last evening and prior to switching off the motor, i noticed that at idle it was running at 2300 RPM, WOW! this has never happened before.
Upon starting it this morning the RPM was the same, after the engine warmed up it started to rev back and forth, kinda like "vroom! vroom! vroom!.
Can anyone explain to me what is this a symtom of and what caused this to occur.

Hmmmmmm.....let me think. The first thing I would do is a thourough general inspection of the vacuum lines, and test PCV valve. Next carefully remove the air intake pipe between the air filter and the throttl body. Chck this for cracks that could leak air into the system between the mass airfloww sensor and the throttle body. With the intake pipe off, inspect the inside of the throttle body. It should look nice and clean.

Past this, if you don't find the culprit, what will happen is the problem get worse until the cause becomes obvious. At least that has been my experience. Good luck.

Are ya sure it wasn’t zoom, zoom, zoom??? ;) :) :p It does sound like a bad sensor of some type. Should be able to do some basic investigation with a multi-meter and a service manual. If it's a vacuum leak, that can be sniffed out with a few short burst of starting fluid placed around the suspect component. If there is a vacuum leak, the idle will increase when the starting fluid is sucked in. Good luck.
