I've been having problems with getting my Merc 90 into reverse. Sometimes it engages, sometimes not and it makes a clicking sound like gears just missing.
I just examined and adjusted the linkage to the control box - didnt find a lot wrong - haven't tested it in the water yet.
Right now, it appears to be shifting into gear (the real test will be in the water) but I was curious about the prop engagement and sounds.
Without the engine running -
1) Should the prop be locked to the engine in forward? It seems to have a one way engagement clutch
2) Should there be any sounds when in neutral?
3) Should reverse be fully locked to the engine? (as opposed to how forward behaves)
Here's video showing the different sounds and engagements.
Also - any good leads on a service manual for this motor?
Thanks!
Jamie
