Just bought a 1996 Cape Horn CC. Has a 96 Yamaha 200 2 stroke on it. When I picked it up on Saturday, I had the guy start if for me, and it fired right up. Last night, I hooked up the water, primed the bulb, and I couldn't get it to start. I may have flooded it (hopefully), when it didn't start immediately, I pumped the throttle a few times. I'm at a loss, and don't know what else to do. I don't think there were any steps he did that I didn't. should be pretty simple.
Any ideas? I know it's pretty petty.

I have the same engines, but 1997. Occasionally, I have to use the manual choke on the engine. Try that.

Robert, don't use the throttle at all. Just prime the bulb, Choke the engine as you start it with the electric choke on the key switch. If you use the throttle at all it will flood the engine... at least that how mine is. Once the engine starts use the throttle then to keep it running for a few seconds and then back to neutral throttle. I only need to use the throttle when I have not run the engine for a while. Don

When toggling the Choke, listen at the engine for them to close, sometimed the solenoid doesn't pull them in and you think you are choking the engine but you aren't.
As mentioned, No Throttle, Just choke 'till it kicks then keep it running by tapping the chioke if it seems like it's going to die. in a very short time it'll keep running

Re: 1996 Yamaha 200 (Saltwater Series)

I bought my first boat used this year and had a similar problem. I towed it to a local lake to get comfortable with it before taking it out in the salt and couldn’t get the thing started even though a week before I had been out on it with the previous owner and it started right up. The problem was I had never owned a boat before and had no idea what I was doing, after towing it back home and reading the manuals/asking some questions here I was able to get it started just fine.

The procedure I go through is to give it a little throttle in neutral, I just go until I start to feel resistance. I then pump the primer ball until it is hard. Then engage the choke on the ignition and turn the key. If its been sitting I may need to play with the throttle for a few seconds to keep it from stalling before backing it down to idle. Hopefully your experiencing a similar problem, I know I was freaking out at first when I couldn’t get it started but it just ended up being my inexperience with the boat.
