I can't think af a bad year for 3L EFIs. :)

About the only differences you'd notice between a carbed and EFI are not having to choke, and EFIs adjust better to changing weather conditions and different elevations. Carbed motors always have to have the primer bulb pumped hard before starting, EFIs will start without priming at all (but you should anyhow!).

Re: 1996mercury 225 efi

I have a 1995 225 EFI, got it new best engine I ever owned. That being said, I am religious about maintenance, & flush w/ Salt away every time I run the engine. I've been very carefull w/ the fuel I put in, & have always used Merc Premium Plus oil, (this year I'm switching to Pennzoil full Synthetic). Other than regular maintenance parts, in eleven seasons I'v replaced only 1 Ignition coil, & an oil level sensor in the engine mounted oil tank. One other thing I've done every year, Power Tune, (Decarb), I burn off all my winter storage fuel, refill w/ fresh power tune then replace spark plugs. Is that overkill, maybe so but My Engine has started every time for me so far. If the one you are looking at is in good condition, & a good price I would buy it. One last thing I have mine on a 21' wellcraft & it is pretty fast. Good luck, Have Fun, Joe
