1997 15hp Johnson idle issue

Just bought a little boat with this motor and right away had trouble getting to full power. Thought Carb was varished so I rebuilt and that didn't help. Discover Power Pack was bad and only one cyclinder was firing. Fixed that, running strong on top end.

However, when I rebuilt the carb I unscrewed the Slow Speed Needle on top of the carb. Motor will now run fine at half or more trottle but has trouble idling. Looking for tips on how to set the slow speed needle correctly.

Thanks

Thats what I did to my 1993 evinrude 15hp. had the same issue. turned the slow speed idle all the way in while on the water then slowly backed it out till it was idling. It was about 3/4 turn out when mine started running ok.

When I took the carb apart to clean it I turned it in before removing it and it was at 2.5 turns, keep in mind when I got the motor it wasn't running correctly.

Are you screwing in the screw til the spring compresses or tighten til the springs doubles on itself and the needle is firmly seated? This could be the difference of one turn.

Does anyone have a copy of a shop manual carb tuning procedure of this motor?

Look at the top of this forum for Top Secret Stuff and there is information there on carb needle adjustments. Rick.
