Seems to me you would want to look at the GSi Gi drawings since you have fuel injection. Have you found discrepancies between your engine and those drawings.

I have a set of LK paper manuals as will and agree there are definitely no GLi schematics.

Since you have an OMC, how did you translate what you have to a GLi?

Wiring diagrams don't really help much unless one really knows what one is doing. Sometimes replacing a burned up harness it can be helpful, but the harnesses are so simple and line right up its pretty obvious. If you are trying to diagnose an electrical gremlin a diagram is next to useless.

yes defo GLi and the engine block is black,it was the time Volvo took over OMC 1997, it has Volvo Penta 5.7Gli stickers all over it,and it was the late Don S who told me all about my engine,Don converted it for me,
Also I know what I am doing but need a drawing to fault find,I also have the Rinda Scan Tool but for some reason its not talking the ECU,
Fuel relay not energising no voltage coming from ECU to energise the relay,J2-9 on ECU
Checked continuity from canon plug J2-9 to the relay and its ok
ECU has battery voltage
ECU has ignition voltage
Something telling the ECU not to energise the fuel pumps.
Fuel pumps energise if I jump the relay.
Fuel pumps should run for 2 seconds then stop
The Engine will turn over but not start-no fuel

doing my head in,sent e-mails off to every man and his dog,UK Volvo not very helpful,

Then you can see the oil pressure switch is involved. Check that and make sure your deadman switch is working.

Hi Walt
Dead mans switch is working fine,if this was not in the engine does not turn over also cuts all power to control panel, the oil switch correct me if I am wrong is N/O,so this will not have anything to do with the start up of the fuel pumps,as these should operate for two seconds when I turn the key to the first position.
The oil switch would close when the Engine is running and if their was a fault with the delivery of oil the switch would open then this would cause a problem and shut the pumps down,
But my problem is the fuel pump will not switch on for 2 seconds ???

If you bypass the fuel pump relay and get the pump running, will the engine actually start and run?

No that is not correct the dead man's switch merely cuts off the fuel.Hot wire the switch

When I hot wired the fuel pumps, they kicked in but the Engine would not fire up because the injectors were not firing, there is voltage going upto both injectors but the ECU grounds them but they are firing.I poured fuel down the hole and the Engine started OK,

I think you have one of 3 issues.

1) Power to the ECU
2) Ground to the ECU
3) Bad ECU

I would just look at the wiring diagrams for the GSi model for the time being. It's likely the same as yours.

There is a 12.5A circuit breaker for the ECU. Have you checked that?

Have you pulled off and reseated the connectors on the ECU?

Hi Bruce
I have voltage going to the ECU from the battery,I have voltage going to the ECU when you switch the ignition on, I have good grounds going to the ECU.
I have pulled both J1 & J2 connectors and checked connections,
I will not be at my boat now till week on Sunday as I fly out to Ibiza in the morning

Cheers
