Thanks TD. This one looks like a better deal than the FICHT anyway! It'll definitely be a step up from my 1975 Evinrude 50hp even though she's still running strong!

yes go with this one over the fitch....but if you can find a 4-stroke you will save big $$ on fuel,..also a much quieter motor..depends on how much fuel you burn in a year on if its worth it or not.

Are there any specific maintenance areas that should be looked at closely? (I have the same engine, fwiw)

compression, and general condition of motor, including lack of corrosion, clean gear case oil. 3 things I look for right off

If over 10 yrs old, start at the tank, replumb everything, install water seperator. New clamps, double clamp fill hose and ground the steel wire insert to the tank and fill nozzle.

Compression test and write numbers in your manual.

Replace fuel filter on engine.
Rebuild carbs,
water pump,
t'stats,
clean all grounds (remove coils and re-install),
gear oil (use new seals),
remove prop and check for fishing line on shaft - lube shaft.
Plugs and wires.

Re: 1997 Fast Strike 115

what is the specific feature of the FAST STRIKE model , that is different than an ocean runner model of ther same hp and year? both appear to be the 60 degree looper motor, also known as an EAGLE block according to a mechanic I met.

thanks

Re: 1997 Fast Strike 115

I think the Faststrike has a 500 rpm higher rev limit. If so, I'm not sure how it is accomplished - whether it's just the ignition or if there's anything mechanically altered to deal with the added stresses.
