Hi, I am new to the boating world. My 97 force 120 will put out water from the pee hole for about 20 seconds when I start it up with the muffs on and then quit. Of course I get worried after about 5 seconds and shut it off. I wait about 15 seconds and then start it up and water comes out again for about 20 seconds. It just started doing this on the lake too. When I am cruising with any speed it is fine, but as soon as I just idle it shuts off after a little while. I just bought it used so I am planning on replacing the impellor just in case, but I don't have time for a couple weeks. Is this normal or should I just hold off on using it until I can replace the impellor? I was thinking it maybe has a thermstat. Water shoots out of the bottom unit from several places when the muffs are on. I don't know if it has an overheat alarm, I freak out and shut it off too fast to find out. I plan on getting a manual, but that will take a while too. (waiting for payday)

Replace impeller before using it.
Those engines can be seriously damaged by overheating.

If you have time to use the boat, you have time to change the impeller.
