I have a 1997 Honda 5hp outboard that I purchased new and have put maybe 6 hours on it and have had nothing but problems with it. Since day 1 it will start easily at home in a 5 gallon bucket of water but as soon as I take it to any lake it takes 20 minutes to get it started. And when it starts it smokes when I first start it. And just recently the plastic recoil starter "gear" broke. I started the motor this morning after sitting for a couple of weeks and the new gear broke. Has anyone else had as many problems with Honda's?
