Yesterday I was running the boat and the water/temp light came on and the engine started to run rough. I too the boat to the landing and trailered it. The intakes were covered in weeds.
Today I pulled them off and ran the boat in the driveway with muffs at reasonable pressure. The light came on again. Can there be more weeds further in? Should I change the impeller? How hard is it to change the impeller?

Manual, manual, manual etc.
For the cost of a manual, especially on a newer motor where you have a lot invested, is the best help you can get.
With 1000's invested why scrimp? If you have never seen a manufacture's manual check one out.
They have the best diagrams, checks, etc. that you could want. Please do yourself a favor and get and use.

Lance,There is a possibility that there is in fact more debris within the cooling system obstructing flow.It is also possible that the intake screen obstruction, that you had, caused the impeller to run dry enough to damage the impeller.I would recommend a waterpump and T/stat changeout. Also ,perform a compression test to insure that the overheat didn't score any cylinder walls.
