1997 johnson 130hp compression probs!!!

i have a 1997 130hp johnson, and the other day i was checking some things and decided to check the compression and found these results. #1=93psi #2=121psi #3=120psi #4=120psi

i was reading my manual and it says that there can be a difference of 20%
the engine runs fine at 5800rpm is at 45mph
i have tried to decarb the engine and the results are still the same

if anyone has any ideas i would appreaciate any further info

It could be as simple as a leaking head gasket, but I would certainly take the head off an look.

agree 1st step is to remove the head, and see what's happened. head gasket is about $20.00, could cure the problem. be sure to torque the head bolts to proper requirements, and then retorque after 10 hours running.

what signs do i look for, on the head if there is a problem. or do i just replace the head gasket and properly torque and then check the compression?

Is your motor running poorly in other RPM ranges?

In other words, what made you do the compression test?

Sam, You might look at the exploded parts pictures for that motor. I think that motor uses orings for head gaskets. If so, it it also uses beads of silicone around the cooling passages to seal them. Perhaps the oring partially melted, giving the low compression.

Your looking for possible scores on the cylinder walls. meaning equel scores on the piston. See if these are visible.

at idle when i put it into gear it will sometimes die, i am gonna order the gasket set and take it apart and re-do the head gasket. and will re check and let yall know. thks for all the info
