Depends on the filters.
In my case I'm running a 10 micron Racor with sight glass upstream of the 20 micron in-line on the motor. Running a 20 micron filter upstream of a 10 micron is fruitless.
I have the same motor (actually 2). Try a remote tank and see if you still have the same problem. I thought I had a restriction problem or a weak fuel pump so I troubled shot everything turned out to be low fuel and a bad gauge. BTW mine smoke pretty bad but when I ran on a remote tank the smoke almost all went away pointing to a problem with the something but I haven't found it yet.
One thing I am wondering is as someone stated do you really need 2 filters (spin on and the inline one)?
