Re: 1997 johnson 70 vro

get a spark gap tester..should have blue streak at 7/16 gap, remove and clean carbs, pay careful attention to all of the small holes, check all fuel lines/filters. new plugs if its been a while. Did this just start or has it been going on for a while?? has anyone messed with any of the adjustment screws?? sounds like maybe idle screws out of adjustment.

the jets are not adjustable. the idle screw is start a 4 out. these engines were built to run, not idle.

remove your idle air screws and make sure they havent been hard set causing a shank on the needle part. then soft set each one in and back out 4 turns. Adjust 1/4 Counter clock wise first and see if it gets better or worse, then adjust as needed 1/4 turn at the time, do this on the water and run for about 10 mins in between adjustments, going back to idle a couple of times then throttling up. also check your timing

Thanks to everyone!from what I read it's probably going to be the air idle screws since they were set at three rounds out. Will try on the water as soon as possible. If it were to be a timing problem how and where do I set?Again thanks!
