Re: 1997 Lakesport 17' remodel

k... back at it today. Got the little electric anomolies straightened out; Horn switch wired to the ground (-); LED polarity on some deck lights; poor pin/socket contact on the motor tilt switch harness connector; bilge pump switch not wired into positive. All resolved.

So I installed the tank and the rear deck. Secured the deck, and the seat pedestal and hatches to the deck. I dressed up the corners of the deck at the stern. Installed deck lights. I also secured the hatches in the intermediate storage/pedastal hidey thingy.

Tomorrow, fashion/install rod holder guide protector tubes and secure then front deck, clean up the bow and replace the grippy tape for functionality and beauty. After that everything else will be accessorizing -

Then she's ready to SPLASH!

Cheers!

Re: 1997 Lakesport 17' remodel

I got the rod holder tubes in the bow, and installed the front deck.

The 1-1/2" pvc tubing, I used my torch to melt and bend as necessary. I used 1-1/2" x 2" pvc bushings, cut in near half to secure the tubes to the bulkhead. I separate piece of metal is cut and covered in decking with holes to receive the rod tubes. This covers up the previous gaping hole from my previous application. I applied spray expanding foam amongst the tubes to prevent banging around under the deck.

The tubes and the rod holders mounted in the cockpit will accomodate up to 8' rods. I hope that's adequate.

I don't take credit for the rod tube idea - I adopted it from another iboats forum member - I'll give credit when I recall whom.

Re: 1997 Lakesport 17' remodel - SPLASHED !!!

Re: 1997 Lakesport 17' remodel - SPLASHED !!!

After securing the front deck, I went aft and secured the pitot tube and depth finder sending unit, loaded up the gear and took her to the lake!

I seem to have a fuel problem - I think the new fuel line connected to the old barb fitting on the tank is sucking air - I need to replace that fitting.

A lot of water in the bilge. The ramp I put in at is real steep, and I got water over the splash well puttin' in and takin' out. But I'm going to check through-hulls and live well drain tubes. It seemed like a lot of water.

Cheers!

Re: 1997 Lakesport 17' remodel - SPLASHED !!!

I started on October 27th - so it's been about 6-7 weeks.

How did I do it so fast?

1. I'm self-employed
2. My business is a workshop with tools.
3. I worked on it everyday (that I wanted to)
4. I took every weekend (Saturday and Sunday) during this time to work on the boat (to the consternation of my wife).

I guess that about covers it.

Cheers!

P.S. - how do you add "SPLASHED" to the thread title? I thought if you changed the title of the first post - the thread title would change - NOT!

Not yet - I only floated it last night. We've had 3" of rain last week. I think I put the plug in the boat before I heade to the ramp - didn't want tot forget. It's possible the water was already in the hull. My recollection is there was no water, but I'm not certain that I had the trailer/boat oriented for good drainage while she was sitting outside the shop.

The only week point in my fuel system IS the one existing fitting on the fuel tank - everything else is new (hose, squeeze pump thingy, and fuel line connector to motor).

Re: 1997 Lakesport 17' remodel

I replaced the one fuel fitting that I did not service during the remodel, and replaced/repaired the ugly no-skid tape on my bow. I'll be splashing again tomorrow to check motor operation and water in the hull.

NICE!!! Congrats on the Splash. I think you set an iboats land-speed record on your resto.

Is that a "GoPro" camera you were using on the splash - like the first person view. That's a pretty lake too.

On your thread title, you can't change the title after about 4 or 5 weeks. However, sometimes the mods will change it for you if you don't bug them to change it a lot. You can also add splashed to your signature. Congrats - Well done!

Look forward to seeing some fish in that boat come spring.

Re: 1997 Lakesport 17' remodel

k.... the motor runs much better with the fuel fitting repaired/replaced. It was short run - maybe still a little air in the fuel line - but certainly much, much better

The water was from the livewell tank - the drain tube was entirely disconnected . It sounded like a waterfall when I got in the water on the trailer and stuck my head in the hatch. the tank apparently had moved forward a couple of inches from the previous location, and the drain tube was even too short!. A 1" plastic barb coupler was enough to get it connected - and I didn't have to pull the deck to fix it.

Next up - duck hunting videos, next week.

Cheers!
