I have been boat shopping and found what appears to be a decent deal on 1997 Larson 21.5 cuddy great boat Volvo 5.7. It is carbureted, approx 280 hours and the risers were reportedly replaced recently. The complicating factor is that according to the owner the start bolts back out out one has snapped off.

I am hesitant to travel an hour to look at a boat that is not in running condition. The owner reportedly has a new boat and had lent this one to his parents to use for the summer. He plans to trade it for a side by side if it does not sell this weekend. Based on the pictures, the captain's seat is worn, but the rest of the vinyl looks ok, The engine compartment looks clean. the boat has definitely spent time on the water because it has bottom paint.

Anyone care to offer some advice? What would a boat like this be worth?

Ayuh,....... Are You capable of pullin' the motor to fix it, or are ya thinkin' of payin' a shop to work on it,..??

If the latter, forget about it, any money saved will be lost in repairs,...

That boat looks like $2,000, based on what the pictures show and the engine situation. more of a project than a boat to use right away. what is plan B? what is your budget?

Thanks for the information. I think I'll pass and keep looking. I have pulled one motor before, but really don't want to do it again. We dealt with an engine rebuilder in Skowhegan, Maine who was excellent.

In terms of budget, I was hoping to get a late 1990s 21-23' cuddy for around $12k. I may have to keep saving as most of the boats in that price range seem to be fixer uppers. Maybe there will be some end of season sales.

You should do OK at a $12K budget, and the boats should be in good shape. That Larson looked bad in the pictures and usually pictures make things look better than they do in real life.

Look at a late 90's 235 Larson Hampton. A lot more boat than the 215 and you should be able to get a decent one on the 12K range.

I had a '95 220 Larson Hampton before my Sea Ray. Loved that boat! That model might be a little older than what your looking for.
